Jana Papantoniou
About
Jana Papantoniou (she/her) is a legally blind emerging artist local to Brunswick in Naarm, Melbourne whose practice destablises societal generalisations of blindness as universal experience. In 2023, Papantoniou completed her honours degree (first class) at RMIT University, following a Bachelor of Fine Arts (visual art) from the Victoria College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne where she majored in drawing and printmaking. Papantoniou’s practice is physically intensive and tactile where the body is positioned as a tool enacting the drawing. Often working on the floor with household items such as cotton buds and toothbrushes, if not her own fingertips. Papantoniou’s practice relishes in the energetic immediacy of working with paper, and the intimacy thus experienced between artist and viewer.
